The
Mission Statement
Mrs. Helena Kaushik
Women’s College will strive to prepare young women to achieve excellence in
their endeavors and teach them to be visionary and great leaders in their
chosen professions and vocations.
The college strives to provide the
students with quality education and will train the students to become leaders
so that they can effectively serve their family, country and above all be a
good citizen of this world.
Motivation
Access to higher
education is extremely limited in rural India and due to economic and social
factors and lack of facilities; opportunities are especially limited for women.
As of 1997, only 1 percent of Indian women had a college
education, compared with 3 percent of Indian men. Yet,
higher education is the catalyst propelling India out of poverty. For local
women, there was no college within 20 miles of Malsisar. Mrs. Helena Kaushik
Women’s College will fulfill a great need for women’s education in this rural
area.
Social
Betterment with a Difference……
Dr. Kaushik appreciated his educational
opportunities as a child growing up in a poor rural area. He made his career
and living as a professor. During this period he realized his life long dream
of giving educational opportunities to others, especially women in rural areas.
Education being the most important human resource, he made this social
investment which made a difference. He donated more than Rs. 5 crores of his family’s personal saving to the College from
1998 to 2008. Another 5 crores rupees (more than $ 1
million) came in the form of generous donations of like minded persons around
the globe. A total nearly of Rs.15 crores has been
invested in non-profit educational, social and economic upliftment
of poor rural women through Mrs. Helena Kaushik Women’s P.G. College, Mrs.
Helena Kaushik Women’s Education College and VR Higher Secondary School in
Malsisar, Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan. This is a huge effort
in social investment by an NRI/PIO individual in his hometown in India-perhaps
one of the biggest. Dr. Kaushik hopes that many people would join him in this
effort throughout India!
The Founders of Mrs.
Helena Kaushik Women's College

Mrs.
Helena Kaushik & Dr. Surendra
K. Kaushik
The college was founded by Surendra K. Kaushik, Ph.D., a native of
Malsisar and Professor of Finance at the Lubin School of Business in Pace
University in New York City and Westchester, NY, USA. The College was named for
his American wife who had visited India five times
before being paralyzed by a stroke in 1991.
Mrs. Helena Kaushik Women’s College, located in a rural area 150
miles west of Delhi and 120 miles north of Jaipur, opened its doors to rural students on August 4, 1999 when
it was inaugurated by the former Governor and Chief Justice of Rajasthan,
Justice N.L. Tibrewal; former Economic Adviser, Dr.
Raja J. Chelliah; Former Minister and Member of
Parliament, Padam Shri Sis Ram Ola; Vice-Chancellor
of the University of Rajasthan, Dr. Kanta Ahuja; Dr. Surendra K. Kaushik; and others.
It beagn classes on Thursday,
August 5, 1999 with 36 higher secondary graduates in the freshman (first year)
class. These young women came from 19
towns, villages and hamlets around Malsisar. Thus the college has immedaitely begun to meet the demand for higher education
of women in this rural area which does not have an institution of higher leearning within the 30 kilometer radius of Malsisar, let
alone a women's college.
The goal of the college is to give
women of this farming community an opportunity
for their development, economic betterment of their families and simultaneous
growth and development of the area through investment in education,
infrastructure and industry. The college started originally in a rented space.
But today we have our own buildings which are on par with global standards. The
college is situated in a 30 acre plot and is looking to acquire more space
based on the need. The main academic building supports class rooms,
administrative offices, labs, center for music and contemporary arts and library. There is a guest house and a residence hall
on campus. The college has extensive sports facilities including basketball,
field hockey, soccer, track, tennis, volleyball, etc. New facilities are added
each year.
MRS. HELENA KAUSHIK WOMEN'S COLLEGE

The mission of this College is to prepare future leaders. The
young women who will attend this College will be provided with the highest
quality educational environment to acquire knowledge, develop leadership skills
for their chosen professions and vocations. The College adheres to the highest
standards for courses, facilities and faculty set by the University Grants
Commission of India.
